Katonah is a village in the Town of Bedford, located at the junction of three main highways, two scenic reservoirs and a Metro North station offering a sixty minute commute to New York City. Katonah's charm is enhanced by the turn-of-the-century architecture. The village neighbors have a strong sense of pride. The reservoir system was created in the late 1800's when the village was flooded.
The family neighborhoods, country estates, horse farms and wooded retreats contribute to the feeling of a small New England town with an old-fashioned village. The Village of Katonah and its surrounding areas are in the Katonah-Lewisboro School System. The Katonah Elementary School serves grades K-5 and John Jay Middle School (grades 6-8) and John Jay High School are located fifteen minutes away in the hamlet of Cross River, situated on a fifty-five acre campus with distant mountain views. More the 85% of John Jay High School graduates go on to college. There are two private schools -- Harvey School and Rippowam Cisqua. The Katonah Gallery, a nationally recognized art museum, offers exhibits and educational and artistic programs that add to the cultural community. The Katonah Town Park offers swimmimg, tennis and sports.
Caramoor Center for Music and Arts houses a important art collection. The Center is famous for its summer concerts featuring important musical artists. There are wonderful concerts of classical music in a country setting. Picnicking on the lovely grounds before concerts is encouraged.
The historic John Jay Homestead, the home of the first Chief Justice of the United States, is also a Katonah landmark. The home is open to the public featuring seasonal events such as movies, concerts and special exhibits. The beautiful stone library is one of the finest in Westchester. The small town atmosphere is helped by the many popular events throughout the year.
