TOWN OF HARRISON

There are several stories about the founding of Harrison.  All agree that in 1696,
John Harrison was the founder.  The town's landscape has brooks, steams and lakes,
the only landlocked town on the Sound side of Westchester County.  The 22 square
miles was called "Harrison's Purchase".  Today there is a section of  Harrison that is
called Purchase.
The Town of Harrison is 27 miles from New York City, commuters have a 36 minute express train ride to Grand Central Station.
Many major corporations call the town home and are located along Route 287,
Pepsico headquarters, on a 121 acre site, exhibits art work of Giacometti, Calder, Rodin. Nevelson and Moore in it's sculpture gardens.  SUNY  Purchase houses the
Neuberger Museum with it's 5,000 pieces in its permanent collection, predominantly
20th century artists, and a collection of African Art sculpture.
The residents love to talk about what a wonderful place Harrison is to live-in.  The Recreation Department leisure time program has something for all age groups.  There
are eight parks and five centers featuring swimming pools, tennis, paddle tennis, pedal-boating and fishing.  It also features many softball fields,  jogging and exercise trails. League sports include baseball, basketball, soccer volleyball and hockey.  Harrison offers summer programs for pre-school and elementary school children in addition to its four-day camps.
There are four public, "neighborhood" elementary school, a middle school and a high school.  The vast majority of students go on to higher education at four year colleges and universities.  The high school offers, in addition to college preparatory, courses in business, as well as an unusually comprehensive program in industrial arts.  Harrison has two parochial elementary schools:  St Gregory the Great and St. Anthony's and the School of the Holy Child, an independent Catholic school for girls.  There is also Keio Academy a high school affiliated with Keio University in Tokyo.  Harrison is the home of the State University of New York (SUNY).
