Chappaqua is a village in the Town of North Castle, which also includes the Village of Millwood. It is located 9 miles north of White Plains, and is 31 miles from mid-Manhattan. A feeling of privacy is easily maintained in this well planned residential community. The beauty of natural lakes and rolling, wooded hills gives Chappaqua all the charm of a New England Village. The comfortable Manhattan commute, the combination of sophistication and country flavor, and a lively schedule of cultural events and activities all make Chappaqua one of Westchester's most popular communities. The Chappaqua School District serves all of Chappaqua and Millwood, as well as small portions of Armonk, Pleasantville, Briarcliff Manor, Ossining and Mount Kisco. It has three elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Education is one of the most important aspects of life in Chappaqua. The District spends in excess of $18,000. - per pupil, per year. Over 90% of the students graduating from Horace Greeley High School continue their education in college. A large per cent age of students attend the most competitive colleges. The recreational facilities offer something for everyone. There are 90 activities sponsored by the recreation commission alone. It is a superb program with ski trips, free summer day-camp, men's basketball and softball leagues women's sports of all kinds and lighted public tennis courts.
